Jedward present the cheque to St Stephen's NS

Story contest cheque for St Stephen's NS

St Stephen's National School, Johnstown, recently received a cheque for €1,000 which the school won in the Londis Write A Story competition. St Stephen's NS was one of just six schools in Ireland which won and principal Jenny McHugh was delighted to accept the cheque on behalf of the school. Ms McHugh congratulated all the children from St Stephen's who took part, and also Ms Aine Kealy who organised and co-ordinated the competition within the school. The money will be spent on purchasing new books for the school library. Following a nationwide competition by Londis and Barnardos in April of this year, 31 young authors aged between 5 and 18 years have had their stories published in 'Write Up My Street', a powerful and inspiring collection of short stories based around community life in Ireland today. Londis received over 6,000 entries from young people all over Ireland who wrote short stories based around the theme of community, people, place and pride. Launched earlier this year by Jedward, the 'Write Up My Street' book goes on sale exclusively in Londis stores nationwide this month. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Barnardos children's charity.
