Call to turn over 'ghost apartments' to community

A call for a 'ghost apartment block' in Duleek to be used for community facilities has been made by Cllr Wayne Harding. The Fianna Fail councillor called for a joined-up approach in providing a community facility in the vacant Maudlin apartment block accross the road from the civic offices in the village. "The site has the potential to put a vibrant heart in the middle of the village. "I am calling for a feasibility study to be carried out and a line of communication to be opened with all the local organisations in an effort to ascertain the best possible uses for the complex," he said. The councillor added that the potential cannot be underestimated. "With small changes, a whole host of options would open up. I will raise this issue at our next area meeting and take it from there. "But I would hope that a whole host of service providers could become involved so as to maximise its potential," he said. "While this project will take some time, I believe the benefits for the community would be enormous and it is really worth pursuing. "These are initiatives that are needed now more than ever and are more deliverable at the present time," Cllr Harding added.
