Gary Rogers in Aviva launch against United
Bohermeen man Gary Rogers has been named in the League of Ireland panel that will take on Manchester Utd at the official opening of the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday 4th August, 7.45. The following week, Wednesday 11th August, the Republic of Ireland will tackle World Cup quarter-finalists Argentina in a friendly international. League of Ireland team manager Damien Richardson named an 18-man panel on Friday for the Man Utd game. He has also named seven players on a stand-by list as there will be a full round of fixtures this weekend. Rogers currently plays for St Patrick's Athletic who are top of the Premier League with the best defensive record. They have conceded only 14 goals in 22 games. Before joining the Inchicore-based side, Rogers played with Galway Utd and Drogheda Utd. Richardson has also included former Cameroon international Joseph Ndo in his panel. Ndo was a member of the Cameroon panel for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. Tickets for the game are priced €45 and €60. Two Athboy teenagers will depart with the FAI u-17 soccer team on Monday 9th August for games against Wolverhampton Wanderers (10th) and Nottingham Forest (12th) as part of the overall development programme for under-age talent. Craig Hanlon, who plays for Belvedere, and Mark Leavy, who play for Dundalk, have been selected for the Irish team for this trip. Meath & District League club Duleek will roll out the red carpet on Sunday 8th August, 1.0 for the official opening of their new facilities which will be conducted by FAI chief executive John Delaney and Minister Mary Hanafin. All local political interests will be represented along with many sporting representatives. There will be a series of under-age football games from 10.0 with a senior challenge between a Duleek FC selection and Drogheda Utd selection scheduled for 2.0.
