Good omen for St Ultan's
Former Seneschlstown manager Damien Sheridan says he is hoping to inspire St Ultan's having accepted the challenge of managing the IFC outfit. Sheridan was in charge of Seneschalstown for five years and during his term in the hot seat he guided the Yellow Furze side to three SFC finals, wininig the Keegan Cup in 2007 and 2009. Initially he had intended to take a break from football for a year, but he received a number of offers to manage other clubs eventually deciding to take the reins at St Ultan's. Sheridan replaces his former Navan O'Mahonys team-mate Donal Smyth. While St Ultan's have suffered from emigration in recent years Sheridan feels they have the potential to become a force in the highly-competitive environment of the IFC. "St Ultan's have been decimated in recent years, but they still have good players," he added. "I wouldn't promise the sun and the stars, but hopefully I can offer something to them. "There's always potential in any group of players especially if they become inspired to do something, that's the secret I suppose, if they become inspired to go that extra mile. "If you can tap into the potential of any group of players, that's the challenge in managing any sports team. "It's about getting the best out of any individual player and then then bringing it to a collective level. "I try and focus on players and get a spark in them, to not just make up the numbers. It's about getting every player to believe that they can make a difference." Sheridan said that he wished new Seneschalstown manager and former Rathkenny coach Dermot Smith the best of luck and felt he would bring a new coaching dimension to the club. Another former Keegan Cup winner Tony Kearney is to take over at Rathkenny for 2012. Kearney guided Wolfe Tones to the Meath SFC in 2006 and is currently in charge of St Fechin's who face Ballivor in Sunday's Leinster Club JFC final. Former Meath manager Colm Coyle is to replace Seamus Kiernan as coach at Oldcastle. Coyle was in charge of Celbridge but is believed to be on his way to the north Meath outfit while Kiernan has taken over at Ballinlough. Among the clubs looking for a new coach are Walterstown and Dunderry. Mick O'Brien has stepped aside as the Walterstown coach while Barry Callaghan has vacated the managerial position at Dunderry.
