Death of writer Lilian Finlay

The death has occurred of the writer, Lilian Roberts Finlay, of The Stone House, Dunsany. Mrs Finlay, mother of Barnardos chief executive Fergus Finlay, died on Tuesday at Beechfield Manor Nursing home in Shankill, where she had been residing for the past year. In the 1990s, while in her 70s, Lilian Roberts Finlay became a well-known writer of such novels as 'Always in My Mind', 'Forever in the Past', 'Stella', and a collection of short stories, 'A Bona Fide Husband'. She was aged 96 and is survived by her family, Felicity, Finola, Fergus, Hugo and Aoibhinn, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her remains will rest in Colliers Funeral Home, Old Connaught Avenue, Bray until Sunday 2nd July, when she will be removed to the Chapel at Mount Saint Mary's, Milltown, Dublin 14, arriving there at 5pm. Her funeral takes place on Monday, 4th July, in the Chapel at Mount Saint Mary's, at 11am, followed by interment in Dunsany Cemetery, alongside her husband Hugh, who passed away in 1984.
