Where there's a will there's a way - at least for Kiltale
COMMENT
Where there’s a will there’s a way. Last week Kiltale won the u-16 HC. Sorry, that should have read Kiltale strolled to the u-16 HC title last week.
They defeated Dunboyne in the final by 4-16 to 0-3 and that scoreline is enough to indicate just how much they dominated the competition.
It’s likely that in coming years Kiltale teams will dominate other under-age competitions. Why? Because they are one of the clubs who have put a major emphasis on developing their young players. Now they are getting the rewards.
It is an approach that was a major contributing factor to them winning the Jubilee Cup last autumn.
The determination to develop their young players can also be seen in the way they brought their u-16s down to Kilkenny to take on Danesfort as part of their preparations for the final.
And as coach Paddy Kelly outlined that’s nothing unusual for the club - he has often taken teams outside the county to play challenges. Whatever it takes is clearly the motto.
Kelly pointed out that there’s simply not enough hurling for u-16 hurlers in Meath. At least not enough for them to develop in the way that coaches like Kelly would like.
Yet they’re not prepared to sit back and do nothing about. They’re willing to go outside Meath, to take alternative route.
For thinking outside the box Kiltale deserve praise. As Roy Keane would say 'all credit to them.'
