Encouraging display by Gibney in USA

Navan teenager Bryan Gibney (14) returned from the USA last week following his first taste of international golf. Gibney was a the only Meath representative on the First Tee of Ireland team which competed against teams from the USA at Plainfields Country Club, New Jersey which will host the US PGA in 2011. The challenging course was difficult for all the competitors, but the Navan youngster managed an impressive two under par on his first 18 holes. Although the Irish team didn't win the competition, they performed well and one of the main problems was the heat and humidity. Gibney came out on top in one game against two boys from New York who had not been beaten in five years. Support for the trip was provided by Navan Town Council, RAPID, Navan School Completion Programme, Mercy Primary and Beaufort College.
