Court told apprentice was living in his car

A 20 year old man who was described as living in a car was before Trim District Court on Tuesday for not having insurance on the vehicle.

The man with a north Dublin address was also summonsed for not having a driving licence on the same date on 19th April this year at Main Street, Dunboyne, and failing to produce the documents.

His solicitor Dermot Monaghan explained that the defendant couldn’t afford insurance on the car in which the prosecuting Garda agreed the defendant was living. The defendant is a third year apprentice carpenter.

Mr Monaghan said the defendant was in care from when he was six, and became homeless at 17. Judge Eirinn McKiernan marked the facts proven and dismissed the case.

She urged the defendant to continue what he was doing and excused him from attending the court in respect of another matter which was due before the court the following week.

Mr Monaghan asked the Judge to let him go to work.
