Candidates row over posters in Trim
Meath West TD Sinn Fein TD, Johnny Guirke has described as "disrespectful" the actions of those who erected posters of a rival candidate covering crucial parts of his election posters in Trim.
Posters of Aontú candidate, Peadar Tóibón, have been erected on poles on Trim covering up in one case Deputy Guirke's face and in another his name.
"It is very disrespectful to cover up another candidate's poster," he said.
Deputy Tóibón said he refuted any suggestion that Aontú had interfered with other party's candidates.
"Sinn Fein have not contacted me at all about this. I'm surprised their first instinct was to go to the media rather than pick up the phone to me,
"We have a strict policy that Aontú members do not cover up, take down or interfere with another candidates posters."
"However, I am surprised that with the level of homelessness in the country, our A&E being under threat and so many people commuting three hours a day to work, that this is what is occupying the minds of Sinn Féin."
