Another rainy day with some sunny spells breaking through

Weather update from Met Éireann

Generally unsettled conditions continuing over the coming days.

Sunny spells and scattered showers at first today, some heavy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the north and east this afternoon. Cloud will thicken from the south, with rain developing in the southwest from mid-afternoon and spreading northwards this evening. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds backing southeast later.

Remaining showers in the north will clear northwards early tonight and outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the south will spread to all areas overnight. Winds will be mainly light to moderate easterly or variable, but they will increase fresh to strong northwesterly in Munster overnight. Minimum temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees

A dull damp start for most tomorrow (Friday) with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Brightening up over much of Munster during the morning, and in western parts of Connacht during the afternoon, with scattered showers, some heavy. However, cloudy conditions with rain and drizzle will linger in the north and east for much of the day. Top temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees. Mostly moderate to fresh westerly winds, will be strong at times near southern coasts.

Cloudy Friday night with outbreaks of rain and drizzle continuing to affect northern and northeastern parts. Clear breaks and showers elsewhere. Lows of 5 to 8 degrees. Moderate to fresh west to northwest winds generally, but light easterly or variable in the north and northeast.

Saturday looks set to be another mostly cloudy and damp day in the east and north with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Brighter and drier intervals further west and south with scattered showers. Highs of 8 to 11 degrees. Winds will be mostly moderate to fresh west to northwest but light northerly or variable in the north and northeast. Patchy rain and drizzle in the east and north will gradually die out overnight. Dry with clear intervals in the west and southwest. Lows of 2 to 6 degrees in mainly light northwest breezes.

Often cloudy on Sunday, although some sunny breaks will occur. Most areas will have a dry day with just isolated light showers. Highs of 10 to 13 degrees in light variable breezes. Mostly cloudy on Sunday night with patchy rain and drizzle developing in western counties. Lows of 4 to 7 degrees in light southeast breezes.

Monday again is looking mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle over the western half of the country spreading eastwards during the afternoon and evening. Mostly moderate southerly breezes, will be fresh near Atlantic coasts. Highs of 10 to 13 degrees.

Early indications suggest high pressure will have a greater influence over our weather later next week bringing drier and more generally settled conditions.
