Patchy light rain throughout the day

Weather update from Met Éireann

A cloudy start across the country with light rain or drizzle affecting areas of Connacht and Ulster. Some patchy mist or fog lingering in parts of the north and south too. Elsewhere, it's mainly dry but the cloud will persist through the afternoon with patchy light rain developing later. Highest temperatures this afternoon of 9 to 11 degrees with light southwest winds.

A cloudy night with patchy rain or drizzle drifting southeast across the country. Some dry intervals developing in the northwest later in the night. Overcast skies tonight will keep our temperatures mild with lows of 6 to 8 degrees. Light southwest winds but a little fresher along Atlantic coasts.

Tomorrow will be cloudy with patchy rain and drizzle at first mainly affecting Connacht and Ulster. A drier start elsewhere but patchy light rain will drift down over much of the country later in the morning. By midday the light southwest winds will turn northwesterly as the rain clears away leaving a mix of cloudy periods and some sunny spells with highs of 7 to 10 degrees.

A little cloudy in the south and north of the country overnight on Wednesday with some patchy light rain or drizzle. Staying dry elsewhere with clear spells into the night. It will turn chilly as cool air from the north plunges down over the country in that northerly breeze so our lows will dip down to 2 to 5 degrees.

High pressure builds over the country so it will be a calm but somewhat cloudy start Thursday morning. Some sunny spells will develop during the afternoon but it will stay a little cooler with highest afternoon temperatures of only 6 to 8 degrees in light northerly breezes.

Any cloud will clear to leave a mostly clear and dry night on Thursday. Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing widely so there is the risk of icy stretches and ground frost. Winds will be mostly light and variable with lowest temperatures of 2 to -2 degrees.

Friday is expected mostly calm and settled to begin with any frost or ice clearing. Cloud will build from the northwest and gradually spread throughout the county during the afternoon with light rain developing in the northwest. Highest afternoon temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in mostly light winds.

A cloudy night in store Friday night with patchy rain or drizzle along the north and west of the country. Rain will gradually spread throughout the country into the early hours of Saturday morning. Overnight lows of 2 to 5 degrees with light northwest winds.

Current indications for the weekend suggest that the high pressure largely dominating the weather will slowly drift away to the southwest allowing for the passage of weather fronts across the country. Temperatures likely to be in the high single or low double figures.
