Trim faces another weekend of water restrictions

Residents of Trim and the surrounding are facing into another weekend of overnight restriction on their water supply.

The part required for the Trim Water Treatment Plant has been installed but Irish Water say it will take a number of days for the reservoir levels to recover.

As a result, night time restrictions to the water supply- in place since 29th October will continue over the weekend with restrictions in place from 10pm to 8am.

Irish Water say that specialist parts have been successfully installed at Trim Water Treatment Plant. Crews are progressing with commissioning and operational testing to bring the plant back into full production.

Due to the significantly low levels in the reservoir, it will take a number of days to refill the reservoir to meet current demand and allow the restrictions to be safely lifted. A further update will be provided as the reservoir levels restore.

Crews from Irish Water and Meath County Council continue to monitor reservoir levels closely and are working hard to expedite the lifting of these restrictions. Additional measures to help levels increase are continuing such as tankering water to Trim Water Treatment Plant and Summerhill.

Bottled water will continue to be available over the weekend for impacted customers from 10am to 4pm from Meath County Council offices, Mornington House, Trim.

Customers in the following areas may experience disruptions to their water supply to include reduced pressure, outages and/or discolouration: Trim, Knightsbrook, Scurlockstown, Effernock, Carberstown, Blackfriary, Crowpark, Clonbun, Rathmolyon, Summerhill and surrounding areas. It can take two to three hours following restrictions for normal water supply to be fully restored to all areas.

Speaking about the restriction, Michael Cunniffe, Operations Lead with Irish Water said: “Irish Water understands the inconvenience restrictions cause to customers. We are continuing to progress works at the site and our engineers will be working over the weekend to expedite the lifting of these restrictions for customers. The restrictions are essential to ensure enough water is available during the day. We are aware that customers on higher ground and on the extremities of the network are experiencing outages and we would like to reassure them that we are doing all we can to restore normal water supply for all.

Speaking on the essential need to conserve water especially at this time, Michael added: “We are appealing to customers to continue with every effort to conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website at www.water/conserve.”
