New litter picking station launched in Trim

A new litter picking station was launched in Trim last week where locals can take a litter picker and bag from the stand and pick up rubbish along their walk.

Cllr Aisling Dempsey brought the idea to Meath County Council after her husband spotted them when travelling through Monaghan and thought they were a great idea.

"Given the pride the community of Trim take in the upkeep of the town, not to mention our Tidy Towns group, I knew they would be a success here. Bernadine Carry and her team in Meath County Council were supportive as ever, and teamed up with the Tidy Towns committee to implement them.

"I was delighted to be able to support the project to fruition through my annual Council discretionary funding."

Cllr Dempsey explained that the litter picking station will be available Monday to Friday in business hours at Abbey Lane and another will be kept for festivals and events around the town.

"The idea is that as you undertake your regular walk around the town or Porchfields that you grab a litter picker and bag from the stand and pick up any litter you see on your route. There are other places already in mind should they turn out to be very popular."

Meath County Council is also putting one in place at Bettystown beach.
