Nelson set to take over as Meath Ladies manager

Former Keegan Cup winning manager with Navan O'Mahonys and Meath u-21 and junior manager Davy Nelson has been recommended by the Meath LGFA Executive committee as the new boss of the Meath Ladies senior football team in succession to two-time All-Ireland SFC winning manager Eamonn Murray.

Nelson's appointment was recommended by the Executive of the Meath LGFA at a meeting in Bective last night (Monday) and that proposal will be put to the club delegates at next week's full Co Board meeting.

Nelson will be joined by former Monaghan footballer and his long-time coaching partner Bernie Murray with former Christy Ring Cup winning Carlow captain Mark Brennan providing the continuity from last year's All-Ireland winning management as he remains as one of the lead coaches.

It is also expected that Mary O'Shaughnessy will remain as Female Liaison Officer, while Paul O'Donovan will be the new strength and conditioning coach with Kellie Fay also staying involved as team psychologist.

Highly respected Nelson who won six Keegan Cups as a player with Navan O'Mahonys also coached his club to four Meath SFC successes and he also enjoyed glory with Latton O'Rahillys where he won the Monaghan SFC title.

The new minor, u-16 and u-14 managers will be revealed at next week's Co Board meeting.

On the Meath hurling front Trim's James Andrews was confirmed as the new manager of the county u-20 team, while Ger O'Neill will remain in charge of the Meath minor hurlers.
