Cilles strike late to win - but it's all in vain

With the seconds fast ticking away towards the final whistle the outcome of today's SFC clash between Skryne and St Colmcille's at Stamullen hung in the balance.

Then David Bell fired home a late goal and Carl Mullan added a point and these late scores proved so crucial to helping St Colmcille's chalk up a 2-11 to 0-16 victory.

However, it was all to prove futile as they were unable to get the sizeable victory they sought to secure a place in the knock-out phase. Instead Skryne progress with a better scoring difference.

There was no shortage of competitive edge to this game between two young sides but the St Colmiclle's goals were to prove so crucial.

Jeff Kavanagh found the net to help give St Colmcille's a 1-7 to 0-5 victory but Skryne came back to edge in front with Patrick Fox prominent. Fox capped a lively display with five points, one free.

It looked like Davy Byrne's side had done enough to win as they led by two early in injury time but then Bell scored his goal and Mullan added a point. Niall Finnerty swept over a super point for Skryne but St Colmcille's held on to win.
