Death of Dempsey clan matriarch, Maureen, at 97

The death has occurred of Maureen Dempsey of Lionsden, Longwood, at the age of 97.

Maureen, wife of the late travel and insurance agent, Michael Dempsey, who died in December 2017, was mother of the family well known for involvement in politics, legal, GAA and business circles.

She was a prolific golfer, playing until the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to her outings.

Maureen died peacefully yesterday morning, in her 98th year, and was also predeceased by her sisters Rosie, Sheila, Marcella; and grandsons, Cian and David.

She is survived by her sister, Kitty; sons Frank, Michael, Brendan, Seán, Noel, Martin, Dermot, David, Pauric, Niall, Loman and Ronan; daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great -grandchildren, brothers in law, sister in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Maureen will be reposing at Heffernans Funeral Home, High Street, Trim, from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday. Funeral Mass on Sunday at 11.30am in the Church of Saint Columbanus, Ballivor. Burial afterwards in St Loman’s Cemetery, Trim.
