Committee set up to find a manager

A three-man committee comprising of county chairman John Kavanagh, Sean Kelly (Dunderry) and Conor O’Donoghue (Dunboyne) has been tasked with finding a manager for the Meath senior football team in the aftermath of Andy McEntee’s six-year reign coming to an end.

This committee will come back with a recommendation to management and the county committee as soon as possible, chairman John Kavanagh told delegates at last night’s county board gathering in Dunganny.

The chairman said he couldn’t put a date on when that would happen as it depended on the number of people interested in the job.

Nomination papers were sent out to clubs last Thursday morning and they must be returned by Monday, June 20th. Clubs must ensure that they have the written consent of the person they are nominating for the position (email is sufficient).

The Meath GAA Management Committee shall have the power to nominate other persons outside those nominated by clubs.

The chairman said he wanted to place on record the gratitude of Coiste na Mi to Andy McEntee and all his backroom team over the past six years.

“His commitment and dedication to Meath football has been immense and I want to wish Andy and his management the best of luck in the future,” Kavanagh said.

Ronan O’Doherty (Dunboyne) said his club wanted to acknowledge and thank Andy for his time, commitment and dedication to Meath football over the last number of years and wish him the best in the future.

Those sentiments were echoed by Ultan Fitzpatrick (Gaeil Colmcille) who added that some of the abuse on social media in the past week was not part of Meath football and was something that couldn’t be condoned.

Oliver Harrington (Skryne) said he would also like to concur with what the previous speakers said. He also urged the three-man committee to take their time in selecting a replacement.

“We need to get the best person available that is able to motivate the players and bring them to another level,” the Skryne delegate said.

Conor Tormey said he also wished to be associated with the good wishes to Andy and his family.
