French urging Council to examine speed limits at Kiltale

With a countywide review of speed limits due to take place this year, Cllr Noel French has asked Meath County Council to examine the speed limits at Kiltale.

Cllr French outlined that Meath County Council's Transportation Department intends to commence a county-wide speed limit review in 2022 and the location of Boycetown, Kiltale will be included. This review will be carried out in accordance with the published ‘Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits In Ireland’ by the Dept of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

Last month, 15-year-old Emily McDonagh, who lives on the outskirts of Kiltale raised serious concerns about speeding traffic in the village and called for the speed limit to be reduced and for the lower 60kmph limit to be moved further out.

Serious collisions in recent years prompted the Transition Year student at Scoil Mhuire, Trim, to voice her concerns and highlight the issue. She explained how the speed limit on the Trim to Dublin Road used to be 80kpmh but was actually raised to 100kmph, at at time when residents were already raising concerns about the speed of traffic through the village. They hope it will be reduced down to 80kpmh again as part of the forthcoming speed limit reivew and also want the 60kpmh moved further out to take in their group of houses.
