Jamie McGrath

Are the Dons ready to pounce for McGrath?

Is he going or is he staying? That may well be the question St Mirren fans are asking when they talk about Jamie McGrath.

The Meath man has been heavily linked with Aberdeen in recent days ahead of the end-of-January transfer deadline.

The Athboy man has been linked with the Dons before but nothing has materialised but this time could be different.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder is out of contract with his current club St. Mirren at the end of May.

The 25-year old scored 10 goals for St. Mirren in the Scottish Premiership last season, and has scored three in all competitions this term for the Buddies.

There is speculation McGrath could sign a pre-contract agreement with Aberdeen this month, but the Athboy native has also been offered a new deal at St. Mirren which would see him become the highest-paid player in the club's history.

There have also been links to clubs in England, with McGrath saying he wants to play at the highest level possible - an understandable ambition in his quest to advance his career.

"I am just grateful to be in the position I am in, and I can’t take my eye off the ball,.” said McGrath.
