Ger O'Neill in typically tenacious mode during his days playing for Meath

Plans in place for 2022 hurling season

Plans for the 2022 inter-county campaigns at various levels is well underway and the appointment this week of former inter-county players Peter Durnin and Ger O'Neill is evidence of that.

Durnin takes over the Meath u-20 hurlers for a second season after a very successful 2021 campaign. O’Neill will take our minor hurlers for their 2022 campaign.

"The Hurling Development Committee acted quickly to make these appointments and we wish Peter and Ger the very best of luck in 2022," added the Hurling Committee PRO John Andrews.

Both men are at the foothills of their coaching careers and both turned out this year for their respective clubs.

Last week Durnin played a significant part in helping Kiltale win the Brendan Davis Cup with a victory over Trim. He has in the past played major roles in assisting his club to victories in various Jubilee Cup finals. Durnin also played for Meath in the past.

He took over as manager of the Meath u-20 this year and guided them to All-Ireland B success with a victory over Derry in the final at Newry.

O'Neill, who enjoyed a lengthy inter-county career, was also involved as a player in helping Kilmessan to a JHC final victory over Dunboyne a few weeks ago. Also on that Kilmessan side was his son Cian.
