Warning over bogus charity collectors

The Alzheimers Society of Ireland is warning people in Meath that it is not collecting door-to-door after being alerted that bogus collectors claiming to be from the charity have been operating in the county.

There have been reports of bogus collectors calling to houses in the Athboy, Kildalkey and Navan area claiming to be raising funds in aid of the Alzheimers Society.

"Unfortunately, we have been alerted to the fact that people are calling door-to-door in the Athboy, Kildalkey and Navan areas purporting to be raising funds in aid of The Alzheimer Society of Ireland," the charity posted to its facebook page.

"We are currently not undertaking any form of door-to-door collections in any area of the country and most especially not during this time of important social distancing.

"If a person calls to your door collecting for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, please DO NOT DONATE, but contact your local Garda Station immediately with a description of the person collecting or email fundraising@alzheimer.ie"
