Navan singer/songwriter battles it out on TV talent show this weekend

Navan singer/songwriter Adam Grimes is hoping for success this weekend as he battles it out on a new TV talent show.

The music hopeful is taking part in RTE's Last Singer Standing, a gameshow that requires contestants to have tactics as well as talent, as singers face-off against one another in a test of singing ability, and nerve. Produced for RTÉ by ShinAwiL, the series will air on Saturday evenings, with one singer from each show making it through to the final.

Presented by Nicky Byrne, Last Singer Standing sees pop royalty Nadine Coyle, Joey Fatone, and Samantha Mumba offer their guidance and industry experience to the contestants from around Ireland as they take to the stage to perform. Contestants will do battle both musically and mentally as they endeavour to impress the popstar panel, the studio audience, and each other in order to earn that coveted place in the grand final.

Speaking on his upcoming appearance Adam said:

"It was an unbelievable experience to meet all of the celebrity judges, Nicky Byrne is a gentleman, one of the nicest people I have ever met for someone so high profile he is so down to earth as are all of them.

"It is my very first TV appearance, it's something I have never done before and something I didn't think I would be doing at this stage but things happen for a reason and I believe this happened for a reason."

The Navan singer said he jumped at the chance to take part in the show after receiving an email from the production team suggesting he applied. He added:

"It's incredible to come out of lockdown with no gigs whatsoever and then a TV show opportunity comes out of nowhere, it just shows you why you should keep going and never give up and I certainly will never give up.

"I have been determined since the age of eight when I started playing and I'm going to keep pushing. I have still loads more music to come, I have a new single out in early December so I can't wait for that."

Last year, Adam penned a heartfelt tribute song in memory of my close friend Amy English who tragically lost her life in a car accident last year.

As a way of coping with his loss in the days leading up to her funeral singer/songwriter Adam Grimes (21) put pen to paper and wrote “Free to Fly” a heartfelt song describing his life long friendship with Amy who he grew up with.

He says he believes Amy has been encouraging him on this journey. He added:

"Free to Fly was played for the first time today on radio on LMFM and I was thinking if she could just see this, she would be up there with a beaming smile on her face and she'd just be so proud.

"I push the music even more now in her memory because she always told me you need to stick with it because it's what you are good at. I'll never give up, it's my passion, I absolutely love it."

Last Singer Standing airs on Saturday, November 13th on RTE One at 8.30pm
