While yesterday's Save Navan Hospital rally looked to protecting the future of Emergency Dept services at Our Lady's Hospital, there was also time for reflection and a special mention for Navan councillor Joe Reilly who passed away in June 2018 but was a tireless campaigner to keep services in place at the hospital.

Deputy Johnny Guirke described his party colleague as somebody who would have often campaigned on his own outside the hospital keep services open.

"You'd be remembering people like Joe Reilly today and he would have been heavily involved in organising the protest 11 years ago and even in 2014, so I'd be thinking of Joe here today (Saturday).

"He was somebody who would have canvassed outside Navan Hospital on his own on occasion to ensure services were kept open so it's important we have a good crowd here again today and keep the pressure on Government."
