Curraha negotiate Navan O'Mahonys in SFC semi play-off

Curraha negotiated Navan O'Mahonys by 0-12 to 0-9 in the SFC relegation semi-final play-off at Skryne last night.

Just when it seemed this game was going away from them, Curraha conjured up a late three-point flourish to prolong their stay at the top tier of Meath football against 14-man Navan O’Mahonys at Skryne on Friday night.

O'Mahonys lost Brian Dillon to a red card midway through the opening half.

The victory earns a fifth consecutive season at senior level for Curraha.

Extra-time beckoned with the scores tied at 0-9-each with 55 minutes on the clock with the impressive Diarmuid Moriarty’s 54th minute point Curraha’s sole second-half score until the late scoring surge.

Moments later substitute Niall McKeigue put Brian O’Hanlon through to level matters.

Earlier in the quarter the same combination might have conjured up a goal, but O’Hanlon couldn’t connect with the pass laid on by the team’s most experienced player.

Diarmuid Moriarty’s fourth point restored Curraha’s lead, which they took to the finish.

Further scores from Niall Murphy and Jack O’Connor cushioned Curraha against a late flourish by the Navan men.

The second semi-final play-off will take place at Trim on Sunday between Ballinabrackey and Dunshaughlin.
