Minister orders HSE to pause reconfiguration at Navan Hospital

The HSE has been instructed by the Minister for Health to pause any plans for the reconfiguration of services in Our Lady's Hospital, Navan.

Minister Stephen Donnelly said it was not acceptable for any changes to happen in the way they were reported.

The intervention comes as the Save Navan Hospital Campaign was preparing to take thousands onto the streets of Navan in protest at proposals to replace the Emergency Department in Navan with a Medical Assessment Unit.

Chair of the Save Navan Hospital Campaign, Peadar Toibin said the news was welcome, but stressed that the threat to the Emergency Department in Navan needed to be lifted completely.

“We need to have A&E fully resourced and never again to have a question mark over its future.”

The campaign will hold a zoom meeting on Thursday night to discuss the latest develoments.
