Tributes paid to late solicitor at circuit court sitting

The legacy of Trim solicitor James Martin will be remembered for generations to come, Judge Martina Baxter has said.

Speaking at the commencement of Circuit Court sittings, Judge Baxter led tributes to the solicitor who died in August.

The judge remembered Mr Martin as a kind compassionate man who was always generous with his time.

He had qualified in 1958 and practiced for 63 years to the highest standards and with courtesy and patience, Judge Baxter noted.

Speaking on behalf of solicitors in the county, Peter Higgins said Mr Martin was never a man for confrontation and had been held in the highest regard by his clients.

Mr Higgins extended sympathy to the late Mr Martin's family.

On behalf of his fellow barristers, Roderick O'Hanlon Senior Counsel asked to be associated with the tributes.

State solicitor for Co Meath Liam Keane on behalf of the State agencies and Gardai said that James Martin had been “a father to us all in many respects.”

Judge Baxter led the courtroom in observing a moment of silence in memory of Mr Martin and the "all too many colleagues" who had died over the past year.

Solicitor Kevin Martin thanked the judge and the other speakers for their kind words about his father.

He said his father was someone who was always polite and had great time for people.

He excelled at his job. He loved his job and profession and would wonder what all the fuss was about.

Mr Martin added that he and his family were deeply touched and greatly humbled by the comments.

He concluded that the family as well as his colleagues at Malone and Martin Solicitors took great comfort and solace from the kind words that were offered.
