Burst water main continuing to cause disruption in Trim

- School sends students home as major water outage

- Local businesses also affected by burst main

Irish Water has confirmed that crews remain on-site of a burst water main that is causing havoc for householders and businesses in Trim and estimate repairs will be complete by 6pm today.

At least three local schools have had to close in the town this morning as a burst water main has left the town without water.

Scoil Mhuire secondary school, Boyne Community School and St Mary's Primary School have all sent pupils home.

The outage is affecting homes and businesses across Trim and also in Rathmolyon.

Irish Water says it has identified a burst in a watermain and is working with Meath County Council to restore water as quickly as possible.

A spokesperson had said repairs were expected to be completed by 12noon today and that typically it takes two to three hours after this to restore normal supply to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.

That has now been revised out to 6pm this evening.

“To ensure the safety of the public and crews carrying out the repairs to the burst, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.”

The areas affected include Rathmolyon, Corporationland, Whitehall, Crowpark, Fostersholding, Townparks, Commons, Lackanash, Blackfriary, Newtown, Manorland, Maudlin, Saint Johns, Effernock, Stonehall, Scurlockstown, Moat, Cherryvalley, Glebe, Formal, Killmore and surrounding areas.

Cllr Noel French said that Trim suffers a lot of outages because of old water mains that need to be replaced. “It needs major investment,” he said.

Michael Cunniffe, Irish Water, said, “The repairs are being conducted as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to the area and restore water for all customers. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we work to return the water supply to homes and businesses as quickly as possible.”
