Trim hold on to claim Corn na Boinne

There were a few nervous moments, but Trim held on in a thrilling finish to claim the Corn na Boinne with a 0-20 to 2-13 victory over St Patrick's at Pairc Tailteann this afternoon.

Looking for their first bit of first team silverware since 2003 Trim were hungry early on and led by 0-7 to 0-2 at the first water break.

However, St Patrick's regrouped at the mini-break and stunned Kevin Reilly's charges as Neil Flaherty's goal fired them to a 1-8 to 0-8 lead.

Trim regrouped with Alan Douglas and Ciaran Caulfield impressing as they restored parity by half-time, 0-11 to 1-8.

After the break Trim dominated again and would have been out of sight were it not for some brilliant goalkeeping from Philip O'Brien.

However Trim did manage four of the first five points after the break to race 0-15 to 1-9 clear.

St Patrick's did manage to close the gap to two points before the second water break and when play resumed they worked their way in for a Liam Brennan goal which put them 2-10 to 0-15 to the good.

Trim responded well with Mikey Cullen to the fore as they went 0-19 to 2-10 ahead with four minutes remaining.

St Patrick';s refused to give in.

Niall Mooney and O'Falherty got them to within one, but in the closing stages Trim doubled their lead and then survived a goalmouth scramble to claim the Corn na Boinne by the minimum of margins.
