Mornington entrepreneur scores with new sports app

Frustrated by the lack of opportunities in the jobs market young entrepreneur Fergus Grimes from Mornington opted to strike out on his own and launch a GAA live scores app - Score Beo.

The 23-year-old, who is a graduate of the Business with Entrepreneurship course in the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology GMIT, has already invested up to €25,000 in getting the app up and running - and he's determined to push on and make the venture a success.

He showed his own intrinsic apptitude for enterprise by getting the app enterprise underway after he was unsuccessful in 23 job applications.

Instead of wallowing in negativity he opted to start Score Beo and get back on track.

The app is available on iOS and Android and provides live statistics and information such as scores and line-ups from all around the world in men's and women's Gaelic football, hurling and camogie games.

The app features matches, live scores, line-ups and streaming information as well as fixtures, results and tables. Also included is the latest GAA news.

“The GAA community has such a dedicated fanbase, the least they deserve is an app to match that. Users can look forward to all the GAA content they could ever dream of all-in-one place.

The app solves a real pain point that GAA fans all over the world know about — the inability to find reliable match updates, news, and fixtures in one convenient location.

“There is no doubt that getting reliable updates from matches is relevant but given the current climate it makes it even more relevant, with fans not being able to attend matches. Some matches are not streamed live either, so we solve this issue and bring the match to you.

“I’m very passionate about our national games and the Irish Language. Having been abroad for a short while I know how important it is for people to keep in touch with their team. That’s why the Irish name was a key choice for me in ensuring that we’re connected to that language and culture.”

Score Beo, he added, has already been downloaded in over 50 countries. It has also already topped the Irish sports app download charts. Early sponsors of the app include Mc Cauley’s in Meath, Briscoe’s in Louth, GMIT in Galway and Mayo, Dominos in Limerick and FKM in Monaghan.
