Dalymount date for Clancy's Drogheda

Drogheda United travel to Dalymount Park on Friday night to face Bohemians for the first of two games in four days.

Tim Clancy’s side come into this game following a 2-1 win away to Sligo Rovers in the first game after the mid-season break.

“Very good, very disciplined and educated in how we went about the game," commented Trim man Tim Clancy.

"We were smart in how we worked and showed a lot of high energy which resulted in getting two great goals with Chris.

"We defended pretty well for the whole game, and then conceded from a set piece right at the end which was disappointing.

“Chris could be man of the match without scoring. He’s one of them centre forwards, he’s scored seven goals this season which is really pleasing for him.

"He’ll keep chucking away and putting in the work in that he does. Once the performance levels stay where they are, he’s a handful for anyone.

“Hopefully he’ll be able to add to that in the next 21 games, and get in to double figures, and that’ll be a brilliant return for us this season,” Clancy said.

In the first meeting between Drogheda and Bohemians this season, at Head in the Game Park, a late equaliser deep in injury time from James Clarke rescued a point for the Boynesiders after Liam Burt’s opener for Bohemians.

“James got us a point late on, and they’ll be disappointed they didn’t win that game. They didn’t have many chances in the game, it wasn’t like they absolutely peppered our goal.

“It was a third game in a week for us, as a part time team, it’s difficult, we’ve got players going to work during the day and then three games in seven days.

"Our two performances we’d look at this season would be Bohemians and Derry, when we looked a bit off, and both of them were the third game in a week.

“We’ve had a whole week preparation to go into this one in Dalymount and we know it’s going to be very difficult but we’re hoping that we can give a better account of ourselves this time out,” Clancy said.

In team news, Jordan Adeyemo and Luke Heeney are again available after suspensions.

Brandon Bermingham is doubtful, while Hugh Douglas and Mark Hughes continue to step up their recovery from injuries.

“Brando has trained this week. He didn’t do the full session yet, but he did do two days in a row, kicking the ball fully, and joined in the small-sided game. Friday might be a little early for him.

“Sparky (Hughes) has upped it again with his fitness work and his strength work.”
