Community Recycling Day in Ashbourne tomorrow

The Ashbourne Community Recycling Day will take place at Ashbourne Retail Park, tomorrow (Saturday) between 8am and 4pm.

The event is organised by Cllr Joe Bonner who says he will continue to hold these recycling days as there is no recycling centre in the Ashbourne area.

"We are now in our 16th year of running and organising community recycling events throughout the county. These not for profit events help keep our countryside litter free and reduce unauthorised and illegal dumping, while continuing to promote a recycling policy," said Cllr Bonner.

"Our recycling days provide an avenue for the community to conveniently dispose of bulky house waste at a fraction of the cost of doing so commercially. To date we have recycled well in excess of 2000 tonnes of bulky household waste.

"At our 2020 event, we collected the second largest amount of bulky waste in the history of our events. Great credit must go to the volunteers who help us every year.

"We are asking people to wear a face shield/mask when visiting the site and will be asking everybody for their contact number and townland address to facilitate contact tracing.

"If you require help in unloading your material please bring an able-bodied person along to assist you.

"Social distancing will be applied on the site."

Cllr Bonner explained that they are unable to accept electronic or electrical goods as their WEE service provider will not be participating. "They are looking forward to working with us at our next event in early September when they will provide a full service. Please retain your electrical goods until then."

He said it was important to note they will not have anyone collecting door-to-door prior to the event.
