GAA games could resume from the 7th June.

June date expected for return of competitive sporting action

It is expected that competitive action in various team sports in the Republic of Ireland such as the Gaelic games will be allowed from Monday 7th June with participants allowed to start training for those sports from Monday 10th May.

The easing of Covid-19 restrictions is being discussed today in a Cabinet meeting with NPHET's proposals part of the agenda.

An announcement on the re-opening is expected to be confirmed RTE have reported - something that would be warmly welcomed by the sporting community.

Training for u-18 club players involved in Gaelic games returned last Monday in the Republic while the GAA activity in Northern Ireland has been back at adult and underage level since 12th April.

Inter-county training in the GAA was allowed from the 19th April. There will be no spectators allowed to attend games when competitive action does return.

Earlier this week Taoiseach Michéal Martin spoke about the importance of getting under-age players back training and playing as he is concerned about the mental health of young people.
