A 13 year-old Ratoath boy looks set to become an entrepreneur of the future, after setting up his own business. Evan Sherry, a first year pupil at Ratoath College, is running his own glass recycling service and has called his business 'Bottlers.'

“I collect glass bottles and jars from houses and bring them to the recycling centre,” he said. The service is proving very popular as it saves a journey to the centre for his customers. Evan, a son of Caroline and Bob Sherry, had been looking for a way to make some money.

“My mum had mentioned that in the good old days they used to collect bottles to recycle them, so I decided that is something I could do.”Evan has posters on notice boards around Ratoath, which feature a picture of Brendan Grace's 'Bottler' character, advertising his services.

Caroline explains: “We are all fans of Bendan Grace so we thought it was a good name.”

Evan wears a mask and gloves whenever he goes to a house to collect glass.

“I bring a box and collect the bottles and jars. I don't accept broken glass,” he says.

He has had to enlist his mother or father to drive him.

“They bring me to the houses to collect the glass and to the recycling centre. They have been very helpful.”

Evan's business is only over three weeks old, but he has been very much in demand and has already had some repeat business.

“Just one evening a week is all it a takes after school,” he says.

He is delighted to find he has an extra few euro in his pockets and his friends are also very impressed.

“My friends all think its a great idea.

“I think they are sorry they didn't think of it first, They are all trying to make some money.”

There has been a very positive reaction on Facebook to his idea with a lot of people impressed at the initiative of someone so young. This is Evan's first job and as he is still only in first year, he isn't sure exactly what he wants to do when he is older.

“I would like to run my own business though,” he said.

For now though, he just wants his business to “get bigger and better.”
