Winning debut for Laura Ward at Fairyhouse

Emotional winner as Mary's Pride wins for Ward family

There was an emotional winner of the last race at Fairyhouse this evening when the Vincent Ward-trained and owned Mary's Pride won the bumper.

The winner was ridden by the trainer's niece Laura Ward who was making her first appearance on the track.

The horse, Mary's Pride, was also running for the first time and is named after Laura's late mother who passed away three years ago.

Despite riding in her first race, Laura timed her winning run perfectly from 14th turning into the straight to win by half-a-length and one and three-quarters from Top Dog in second and the Patrick Mullins-partnered favourite Hi Ho Phoenix in third place.

Trainer Vincent Ward is based close to Kilcock on the Meath side of the county boundary with Kildare.
