Slane food producer giving away free tricolour sausages for St Patrick's Day

A Slane food producer has come up with a novel way to encourage people to embrace their Irish heritage this seachtain Na gaelige.

Peter Whelan of the whole Hoggs Free Range Pig Farm in Slane is giving away some of his special edition of tricolour sausages to anyone who speaks cúpla focal at his market stall this Saturday.

The sausages will be available at his regular weekly farmers market Honest2goodness in Glasnevin, Dublin on Saturday. Peter who as well as being a farmer is a member of the Republican Party Aontú and is the local representative in his area for the party said:

“I want to remind people of their heritage , and encourage the promotion of our national language. I will have a limited amount at our stall in Honest2goodness market on Saturday.

"If someone arrives at my stall and speaks a cúpla focal , they’ll receive a few of our tricolour sausages.

"It’s a bit of fun to try brighten up people’s spirits in these tough times . People within the five kilometres only are asked to attend."

Peter is a Dublin GAA fan living and farming in the royal county for the past 25 years . He has made blue sausages before to mark the Dubs five in a row.

“It’s all a bit of craic , we have customers from many counties all over the 32 counties and have regular slagging matches and banter during the GAA season.

“The sausages are our regular flavour with food colouring . They’d look great on your breakfast plate on St Patrick’s day."
