Record numbers apply for funding
Record numbers from Meath applied for Sports Capital Grant funding with 135 clubs making submissions for support.
Over €200 million has been sought by sports clubs & communities; change to criteria which allows clubs & communities to avail of equipment grant is one of the main reasons why application numbers are so high.
The Department is expected to publish the scoring system and assessment manual shortly.
It is anticipated that the first set of allocations will be announced during the summer with all allocations made before the end of the year.
Some 35 per cent from Meath are GAA clubs, 18.5 per cent from soccer with athletics and golf at approx six per cent each and the remainder from a variety of different organisations and clubs.
