Shaping up for the 1,500m qualifying start in Toruń

Coscoran to run in 1,500m final

Star of the Sea athlete Andrew Coscoran made it though to the final of the 1,500m at the European Indoor Championships this evening in the aptly-named Torun in Poland.

Joining Coscoran in the final with be Kildare athlete Paul Robinson and the Irish duo will be on track tomorrow evening at 20.35 (8.35pm Irish time).

Most of the attention will be on the top home athlete Marcin Lewandowski who has also entered the 3,000m and could become the first athlete in history to win European Indoor 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m titles.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway cruised through his 1,500m heat finishing second behind Neil Gourley.

FRIDAY SCHEDULE

Irish athletes: Phil Healy, Sophie Becker and Sharlene Mawdsley open their championships in round 1 of the 400m at 10.22am (Irish time).

Recent 800m record-breakers Siofra Cleirigh-Buttner and Nadia Power will go in round 1 of the 800m alongside Georgia Hartigan at 12.00pm (Irish time).

The men’s 800m is set to start at 18.55 (6.55pm) where Irish 800m record holder Mark English will line up with recent rivals Cian McPhillips and John Fitzsimons.
