Gardai seize €350,000 worth of drugs in three raids

Gardai have seize over €350,000 worth of drugs in three raids in Mullingar, Monaghan and Dublin.

Gardaí seized €70,000 of Cannabis following a search operation in Mullingar on Saturday 20th February 2021.

At approximately 5:30pm, Gardaí attached to the Westmeath Divisional Drugs Unit conducted the search of a house under warrant, at Ardleigh Gate, Mullingar. During the course of the search 3.5 kilos of suspected Cannabis with an estimated vale of €70,000 was recovered.

A man in his 30s has been arrested and is currently detained at Mullingar Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. The drugs will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

In a seperate operation Gardaí have seized Cannabis plants worth in excess of €250k following a search operation in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, on Saturday 20th February 2021.

Shortly after 11.30pm, Gardaí carried out a search of a house in the Carrickmacross area. During the course of the search a cultivation unit with over 300 cannabis plants with an estimated value of €250k (analysis pending) was discovered.

A man in his 30s has been arrested and is currently detained at Carrickmacross Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

As part of ongoing investigations into the sale and local distribution of illegal drugs, Gardaí carried out a searches in a number of flats in the Basin Street area of Dublin 8. During the course of the searches controlled drugs, including cocaine and benzodiazepine, with an estimated street value of €31,000 (analysis pending) were discovered.

Two men aged in their 60s and 20s have been arrested and are currently detained at Kevin Street Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. They can be held for up to seven days.

The operation was carried out by members of the Kevin Street Serious Crime Unit, Divisional Drug Unit, Task force and local units from Kilmainham with assistance from the Dog unit.
