Council and Gardai seek information about 'persistent' damage to life-rings

Meath Co Council are advising people not to swim in the Mornington area after "persistent" damage to life-saving rings and equipment.

Photos posted to the Council's social media accounts appear to show a man in a grey hoodie taking the buoys from their housing on the beaches and have requested any help from the public in identifying the cuplrit.

"Due to extensive and persistent damage on an on-going basis to water safety equipment from an individual in the area, we strongly advise against visiting or swimming at Mornington.

"If you think you can identify this person, please contact the Gardai at Laytown or contact Meath County Council at environment@meathcoco.ie."

Drogheda River Rescue said their crews will continue to monitor the area.

Local Cllr Tom Behan said the behaviour was "unacceptable and potentially putting people's lives at risk."
