Overnight water restrictions in Trim and surrounds for the next week

Summerhill and Rathmolyon also affected

Irish Water and Meath County Council advise customers in Trim, Summerhill, Rathmolyon and surrounding areas that essential overnight water restrictions are required to allow reservoirs to refill. There has been a steady increase in demand over the Christmas period spiking in the past few days and a higher than normal volume of bursts due to recent freezing temperatures.

The water restrictions will be in place for customers in Dunderry Road, Athboy Road, Bray Hill, Navan Gate, St John’s, Knightsbrook, Rock Road, Mornington, Manorlands, Longwood Road and Summerhill from tonight, Friday 15 January until Friday 22 January between 8pm and 8am nightly.

These restrictions are necessary to conserve water and to allow reservoirs to refill so that daytime water supply can be maintained. Some customers may experience low water pressure and/or water discolouration while restrictions are in place. Normal water supply may take one to two hours to return as water refills the network.

Customers in Trim, Summerhill, Rathmolyon and surrounding areas are asked to be mindful of how they use water, however it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand washing.

As handwashing remains a priority, simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on this supply. Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth and shaving can save up to six litres of water per minute. Taking a shower instead of a bath or using a watering can rather than a hose when gardening can also make a big difference in water use.
