Work on upgrade of Laytown car park commences

Work has commenced on the long awaited renovation of the Laytown Car Park in East Meath.

Works began to upgrade the Laytown Car Park today Friday 9th October and the Textile Recycling banks will be removed on a temporary basis.

The bring banks for cans and bottles will be relocated to the Bus Turning area adjacent to the car park and east of the playground.

In addition to the car park works, further works will be carried out to build a new set down area for the bring banks, west of the bridge as you enter Laytown.

Both bring banks and textile banks will be reinstated at that location when work is completed. It is hoped to have works completed and the bring banks reinstated before Christmas.

Welcoming the news, Fine Gael Councillor, Sharon Tolan said:

“This will make such a difference for commuters post Covid, when people return to work as normal. It will increase the capacity at the car park, significantly improve the condition of the surface and clearly line out car parking spaces to make much better use of the area.

"On a number of occasions I received calls from distraught commuters arriving home from work and trapped in the car park due to the number of vehicles irregularly parked.

"I also look forward to seeing the removal of the bring banks from such a prominent area, and an area of such natural beauty.

" It was very difficult for local people to access these bring banks during the day when the car park was full, so the new site west of the bridge will be much easier to access any time of the day.”
