Highest number of Meath Covid cases in Kells

The Kells electoral area has had the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the county in the past 14 days at 23 confirmed cases or an incidence rate of 71 per 100,000.

The national average is 88.2 per 100,000.

The Ratoath electoral area had 22 cases in the same period and an incidence rate of 66 per 100,000.

The Ashbourne area has 20 cases and an incidence rate of 68.8 per 100,000.The Navan area had 15 cases in the past 14 days and an incidence rate of 42.9 per 100,000, while the Trim and Laytown Bettystown areas both had less than five cases each.

A total of 23 new cases were confirmed in Meath yesterday and there has been 100 cases in the past fortnight.

The Cathaoirleach of the Kells Municipal District, Cllr Paul McCabe has expressed concern at the high number in the Kells electoral area.

"There has been a very concerning rise in confirmed Covid cases across Kells and North Meath over the past 14 days.

" There are now at least 23 confirmed Covid 19 cases in our area. This represents the largest amount of cases per district in county Meath, which is particularly alarming and cause for concern for us all. We have to act now to stop the spread of the virus.

"In advance of the weekend, please please remember to wash your hands, keep your distance from others , wear a mask and keep social interactions to a minimum.
