WATCH: Tree towering cats survive 60ft falls and two days stranded in the branches

Two terrified cats trapped at the top of a 100ft tree for over 48 hours survived 30 and 60 metre falls before finally making their way down to safety just minutes before a kindhearted local tree service crew arrived to help.

Cavan Tree Services were en route to the scene in Mullagh after Navan-based Last Hope Animal Charity posted frantic Clare Martyn's plea for help on Wednesday night after intrepid explorers Max and Rocky went on the climb of their lives without figuring out the way back down.

"Max the first one to fall, fell from the top of the tree and walked down the rest of the way. Rocky fell about 30ft and then 20 minutes later fell 60ft. This all happened about 10 minutes before the lads (Cavan Tree Services) arrived to help. It was so unfortunate for the guys, they really wanted to save them," laughed Clare afterwards. "But they are absolutely fine, got vet-checked and they're perfect."

Ahead of the rescue Clare described how worried she was for the feline explorers: "It's been heartbreaking to see Max and Rocky in distress, but it has been so reassuring to know so many people care. Really appreciate everyone's support. They are still alive and we are talking to them and just being there for them."
