Adam Gilsenan on the way to victory.

All-Ireland gold for Adam Gilsenan

Talented young Bohermeen cyclist Adam Gilsenan claimed an All-Ireland Youth Road Race Championship gold medal in Waterford on Sunday.

A second medal was also brought back to the Bohermeen club when Cillian Owens went close to outright victory in the u-13 category and claimed a bronze medal with a third place finish.

The championships were hosted by Panduit Carrick Wheelers with the support of many local clubs in the Waterford area.

The event catered for girls and boys from u-11 up to u-16 categories and they competed around a testing 12.84km loop.

The younger age groups completed one loop with the older boys and girls racing over a longer distance up to a maximum of four loops.

For the Bohermeen club it was a superb achievement to win an All-Ireland title.

Gilsenan was one of six competitors from the Bohermeen Cycling Club who made the trip to the south east and while he took the top honours in his category, there was also solid performances from the other club members who all performed with distinction.

The other members of the club who were in action at the All-Ireland Youth Road Race Championships in Kilmacthomas were Cian English and Eoin Davis in u-11 boys race, Sophie English in the u-13 girls race and Ryan Walsh in u-15 boys race.

"It was a fantastic achievement by Adam and Cillian and the club is very proud of all the youth members," commented club PRO Bridget Reilly.

"There was great competition in all the races with our youth members proudly representing Meath in the Bohermeen club colors.

"Two All-Ireland medals, Cillian Owens taking bronze and Adam Gilsenan winning gold is a great achievement and a huge boost for the club," she added.
