Top four finish for Laytown & Bettystown golfer

Daniel Mulligan from Laytown & Bettystown was in action this week at the Irish Boys Amateur Championship where he took fourth place overall on a total of 214 for the three rounds.

Mulligan finished behind winner Sam Murphy (204), Luke Kelly (212) and Morgan Cain (214).

Evan Shipp from the Headfort club in Kells was also in action.

The event was played over three days over 54 holes at Thurles with a 36-hole cut on Tuesday.

Both Mulligan and Shipp made the cut after the opening two rounds with the top 40 progressing to the final round on Wednesday.

Mulligan finished on two under after rounds of 71, 73 and 70 for a total of 214.

Shipp was two over for the three rounds with 76, 73 and an excellent third round of 69.

Sam Murphy from Portumna took the title with rounds of 71, 68 and 65 for a total of 204.

Niall Bagnall (Co Meath) and David O'Malley (Black Bush) and Matthew Cully (Royal Tara) were also in action but didn't qualify for the the third day.
