Action from this evening's game between Trim and Killyon.

Cole's men stroll to victory

In the tropical-like heat that could be found in Kildalkey this evening Neil Cole's Trim side turned up the temperature and marched to a deserved victory 3-17 to 0-12 over Killyon in the SHC.

Cole's men led most of the way building on a resounding 3-8 to 0-9 interval advantage to chalk up a deserved victory on Kildalkey's superb playing surface prepared by groundsman Tony Costello.

Killyon's hopes were all but extinguished in blistering spell just before the break when Trim fired home three goals, two from Brian Dowling and another netted by Dimi Higgins.

That more or less finished the game as a contest with Trim's scoring threat reflected in the way 11 of their players got on the scoresheet with Dowing who finished with 2-1 and the impressive Mikey Cullen, who bagged four points, leading the way. Alan Douglas hit three points while Mike Cole and Mark Molloy both finished with two points apiece.

Killyon led briefly in the opening half but they rarely looked like getting the goal they so badly needed particularly in the second-half.

They did break through in the opening half but Mikey Mullen' s shot was saved superbly by Charlie Ennis who dived to his left to turn the ball away. Even if the ball had ended up in the net Trim would most likely have won.

Mullen finished with eight point, but only one of those scores was from play. Adam Gannon fired over two fine points while Niall Smullen and Harry Smyth also pointed for Kevin Dowd's team they just didn't have enough on this occasion to upset an impressive Trim outfit.

Killyon really struggled to make inroads in Trim's firmly-founded battlements in a one-sided second-half.

"The work ethic of the lads tonight tremendous we created chances were sharp in the forwards while our defence was very strong as well," said Trim coach Neil Cole.
