The Roads Policing Unit were busy in Meath over the weekend

It's been a busy weekend for the Roads Policing Units in Meath.

Speed checks at various locations on the M3 motorway resulted in the detection of a number of offences according to Meath Crime Prevention.

"Conditions were wet and surface greasy. A number of detections were got for speeding and mobile phone offences. Motorways are not racing tracks so please slow down."

Drivers were clocked doing speeds of 158-166km/h.

In another check on Saturday, Meath Road Policing Unit performed a speed check at N51, Knockumber, Navan, where a BMW was detected driving at 174km per hour in a 100km/h zone.

The male driver was subsequently arrested for dangerous driving and conveyed to Navan Garda Station for charging with a court appearance to follow.
