Amber Preston is becoming an internet sensation

A 14-year-old Kentstown girl is fast becoming an internet sensation, with a video of her singing 'Feed the Birds' from 'Mary Poppins' going viral.

Amber Preston is a member to Addicted to Dance group in Ratoath and during lockdown their teacher, Ashling Rowntree, has been holding online classes and decided to hold open mic events.

Amber's performance was recorded in her family's kitchen in Kentstown last Friday night and has now received 16,000 views.

“Amber was doing what she loves to do - singing songs from musicals,” says her mother Deirdre Preston-Byrne.

“Amber was mostly excited about her Nanny (Patricia Byrne) in Hillview Nursing Home in Rathfeigh being able to watch it on the nursing homes iPad. The staff have enjoyed watching it also.

“She hasn't seen her Nanny since February because of the lockdown and still cannot visit her because she is under 16.”

Amber is a daughter of Deirdre Preston-Byrne and Liam Preston and has a sister Ruby (12) who is also a talented singer.

A student of Loreto, St Michael's in Navan, she is a member of their junior choir which won the Navan Choral Festival's junior school choir competition last year. She also won the under 13 solo competition at that festival.

Amber regularly sings at the Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival and both Amber and Ruby performed at the lighting of the Christmas tree in Dunshaughlin last Christmas.

Amber, Ruby and Deirdre, are all members of Ratoath Musical Society, Amber having taken part in their annual panto for the past five years and Ruby and Deirdre for the past two.

“Amber's big ambition is to perform in the West End. She loved musicals,” says Deirdre.

Judging by the fantastic response to her Facebook performance, it mightn't be long until she gets her big break!
