Navan RFC puts on a show for Towns' Cup showdown

The focus was on Balreask Old, the home of Navan RFC, today as they Provincial Towns' Cup was staged at the venue with Enniscorthy defeating Wicklow 10-9. 

The Navan club had put a big effort into getting their home ready for one of the biggest occasions in junior rugby and while the crowd may have been smaller than expected there was still an electric atmosphere for this biggest of days for the clubs. 

Wicklow took the lead when out-half Niall Earls scored from a penalty kick and they added to their account soon after. Once again Earls fired over from a penalty to leave it 6-0. However Enniscorthy gave themselves real hope when Arthur Dunne scooted in for a try, convertedy by Ivan Poole. 

Wicklow reagained the lead when Earls fired the ball between the posts from a panelty but sustained pressure yielded a penalty for Enniscorthy and Nick Doyle scored to edge his team a crucial point in front - and that's where the Wexford side stayed until the final whistle. 

Navan have won the Provincial Towns' Cup 10 times in their history but on Saturday a measure of their progress was seen in the way they clinched promotion to the AIL Div 1B.
