Meath Sports Awards - February winner Shane Aston

Meath Sports Awards - FEBRUARY Shane Aston

The Meath Chronicle Sportsperson of the Month award for February goes to Shane Aston (pictured) from Trim Athletic Club.

The Trim athlete won the National Indoor Senior high jump title at Abbotstown and took bronze in the pole vault and the 60m hurdles.

He was the final competitor to win gold at the championships and he took the high jump honours with a leap of 2.0m ahead of another Meath athlete, Kourosh Foroughi (1.95m) from the Star of the Sea club.

The 2019 Meath Sports Awards will be presented in January 2020 when one of the monthly winners will be selected as the overall Meath Sportsperson of the Year.

Last January racehorse trainer Gordon Elliott won the award for the second time, he also won the inaugural award in 2007.

For 2019 there will be the usual categories apart from the overall award.
